Miles McCollum and Harvard opens 2016 Sept. 16 vs. Rhode Island (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  Tom Stewart completed 9-of-16 passes for 136 yards and a TD to lead the Crimson team to a 13-7 victory over the White squad in Harvard football's annual Spring Game Saturday evening at Harvard Stadium.

On a clear, beautiful night in the Boston area, Cam Tripp was 8-of-11 for 89 yards and a score, while Anthony Firkser led all receivers with 87 yards on three catches. Jack Stansell made three receptions for 59 yards. On the ground, Stewart rushed for 77 yards on eight carries, Dallas Schray had nine carries for 54 yards, and Semar Smith finished with six rushes and 39 yards.

On the first play of the game, Stewart scrambled for a 55-yard run, moving the ball to the White 21-yard line from the Crimson's 24. On the same drive on third and goal, the White defense stopped a rush by Smith, forcing the Crimson squad to kick. Kenny Smart nailed the ensuing 19-yard field goal to give the Crimson a 3-0 lead. The Crimson added to its lead, 10-0, when Stewart connected with Firkser for a 17-yard TD late in the first quarter.

Smart nailed a 25-yard FG with 5:24 left in the second quarter, as the Crimson extended its advantage to 13-0. In the final seconds of the half, Tripp threw a 10-yard TD pass to Christian Houston to pull White within six, 13-7.

Harvard will open the 2016 season by hosting Rhode Island Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
