Men’s Fencing Records Three Wins in Opening Tournament

Dershwitz ends a perfect 12-0 to open college career (Gil Talbot).

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – In its first tournament of the year, men's fencing went 3-1 against Penn State, Vassar, New York University and host Sacred Heart.

The Crimson fell to Penn State in a tightly contested opening match 16-11, but recovered in round two as Harvard took on Vassar and came away with a 21-6 victory. 

The home Pioneers faced Harvard in the third round, but fell 19-8 for the Crimson's secondd win to open the tournament. After a bye in round four, Harvard finished the meet with a 21-6 win over New York University.

The Crimson was led by its sabre squad, which went undefeated in the tournament. In his first collegiate event, freshman sabre fencer Eli Dershwitz led the way with a perfect 12-0 mark.

Harvard continues its schedule January 24 at the St. John's Invitational, where it will take on Notre Dame, Ohio State, Columbia, Penn State, and the host Red Storm.
