Dershwitz Named ECAC Men’s Fencer of the Week

The freshman went undefeated in his first tournament with the Crimson (Gil Talbot).

DANBURY, Conn. – Eli Dershwitz of the Harvard men's fencing team has been named ECAC Fencer of the Week after a strong series of performances at the Tradition Tournament.

Dershwitz, a freshman from Sherborn, Massachusetts, opened his collegiate career with an undefeated 12-0 start at the Tradition Tournament in Fairfield, Connecticut. Dershwitz helped lead a sabre squad that went undefeated in its first four matches, and helped the Crimson get out to a 3-1 start. He toppled three opponents from Penn State, Vassar, NYU and Sacred Heart with a plus-39 touch differential during the tournament, and was the only men's fencer to finish the tournament undefeated.

The award is the second of the week for Dershwitz, who was also named the COOP Athlete of the Week for December 2-8. The men's fencing team returns to action at the St. John's Invitational January 24.
