Dershwitz Takes Gold, Chang Wins Bronze at US Fencing July Challenge

Eli Dershwitz earned All-America first team honors as a freshman last season (Gil Talbot).

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Rising sophomore Eli Dershwitz won the gold medal in the sabre at the US Fencing July Challenge, while rising senior Jerry Chang captured the bronze in the foil.

Dershwitz, who hails from Sherborn, Massachusetts, was seeded No. 2 in the United States entering the tournament.  In the championship bout, Dershwitz, who earned All-America honors as a freshman in 2014-15, defeated Daryl Homer of St. John's, the No. 1 seed, 15-8.

Chang, a native of Mountain View, California who was a second-team All-America choice last season, earned bronze in the foil after advancing to the semifinals.
