Mageras and Zhao Elected Men’s Fencing Captains for 2016-17 Campaign

Mageras returns as the only men's All-America honoree (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Stephen Mageras and junior Eric Zhao have been chosen by their teammates as the Harvard men's fencing captains for the 2016-17 season.

Mageras was named to the All-Ivy first team for his 12-3 mark at the Ivy League Championship assisting Harvard in a fourth-place finish. The foil fencer also placed seventh at the NCAA Championship with a 14-9 overall mark earning All-America second team. The Darien, Connecticut native assisted the Crimson in capturing the Beanpot with an 8-1 record giving him a combined record of 62-23 on the year.

Zhao fenced saber and concluded last season with a 21-19 overall mark including posting an 11-4 tally at the Tradition Tournament. The Potomac, Maryland native assisted the Crimson in its ninth Beanpot title after recording a 7-2 individual mark at the meet.

The Crimson, as a team, finished seventh overall at the NCAA Championship in the 2015-16 season, while the men placed fourth in the Ancient Eight with a 2-3 mark and a 10-3 overall record.
