Queens, N.Y. – The No. 2 Harvard men's fencing team returned to the strip for the St. John's Invitational going 3-2. The Crimson put up victories over No. 3 Penn State, No. 7 Ohio State and host St. John's.
In the opening bout against Penn State, the Crimson secured a 14-13 victory, notching big wins from the sabre and foil squads. Duncan Rheingans-Yoo and Matt Branman tabbed a pair of wins to tip the scale in the Crimson's favor. This marks the second time this season Harvard has found success over the Nittany Lions.
The Crimson saw back-to-back close losses coming from No. 4 Columbia, 14-13 and No. 1 Notre Dame, 15-12. During the contest against the Irish, first-year sabre fencer Jason Oh swept his competitors alongside his teammate Eli Dershwitz. Harvard bounced back after edging Ohio State 15-12 and St. John's 19-8. Harvard took a commanding 6-3 lead over the Red Storm before the foil team of George Haglund, Matt Branman and Duncan Rheingans-Yoo dominated their St. John's competitors 8-1.
- Senior Eli Dershwitz swept all of his competitors putting up a perfect 14-0 on the day in sabre. Additionally, first-year Daniel Solomon tabbed a 9-5 record on the day.
- Junior foil fencer Duncan Rheingans-Yoo took sweeps against Ohio State and St. John's, while totaling a 12-3 record.
- In epee, first-year Andrew Lee tallied five victories, while senior Albert Chien and sophomore Adrien Thein-Sandler collected four wins.
