No. 3 Men’s Fencing Secures Wins Against No. 1 Columbia and No. 2 Notre Dame at St. John’s Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y.- Knocking off a pair of ranked opponents, No. 3 Harvard men's fencing (11-3), defeated No. 1 Columbia, 15-12, and No.2 Notre Dame, 16-11, at the St. John's Invitational.

Harvard dropped its first match of the day against Penn State but quickly bounced back with back-to-back wins.

In round two the Crimson defeated Ivy League Rival and No. 1 ranked Columbia, 15-12. Senior foilist George Haglund and junior epeeist Adrien Thein-Sandler led the charge each going a perfect 3-0 against the Lions.

Harvard took to the strip in round three against No.2 ranked Notre Dame. The Crimson downed the Fighting Irish 16-11 with perfect marks from senior Erwin Cai and junior Geoffrey Tourette.

The men went on to finish the St. John's Invitational with a record of 2-3.

Harvard Highlights

  • The Crimson knocked off No. 2 Notre Dame in round three on the day and No. 1 Columbia in round two.
  • Foil squad lead the way for Harvard on the day posting a 29-16 record despite being down a fencer in the final round.
  • Senior captain Duncan Rheingans-Yoo and junior Geoffrey Tourette posted the best records on the day for the Crimson at 11-4.
