Two Student-Athletes Join Men’s Golf for 2017-18 Campaign

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Fred Schernecker '89, The Paul M. Weissman '52 Director of Harvard Golf, welcomes two incoming freshmen to the men's golf team for the 2017-18 season.

"In addition to their impressive golf accomplishments, our incoming freshmen are representative of the academic excellence embodied by Harvard with impressive classroom credentials and leadership roles," said Schernecker

Both recruits travel to Cambridge from California and have family ties to the Crimson golf program.

Grant Fairbairn | Orinda, Calif. | The College Preparatory School
Awarded league MVP in 2017 … Named team MVP in 2016 and 2017 … Awarded ALL-FCWT first team 2016-17 with a victory and three top-5 FCWT finishes … Ranked as high as top-5 in the country for the class of 2017 according to AJGA Polo Golf … Reigning champion of 2017 North Coast Section Division I and CIF North Coast Section Division II championships … Captained the College Preparatory School from 2015-17 … USGA-AJGA Presidential Leadership award winner in 2017 … Named Athlete of the Year at College Preparatory School as a senior … Earned AJGA Leadership Links top fund raiser recognition in 2016 … Volunteer at Judge Baker Children's Center for autistic students … Sister, Nina '17, graduated from Harvard and played for the Crimson women's golf team … Father, Malcolm '94, graduated from the Harvard Business School.

Ranked in the top-50 in the country for class of 2017 according to AJGA Polo Golf … National League of Young Men (2013-17) …  Finished as high as T4 at 2016 IMG Junior World Championship … Made round of 32 in the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship … Named to 2016 All-Southern California team … 2015 AJGA The Yang Foundation at Yorba Linda winner … Made the 2016 AJGA Scholastic All-America Team honor roll … Joins his brother, Hale '18, as a Crimson golf team member.
