CAMBRIDGE, MASS - Junior forward Ryan Donato was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, the conference announced today (March 15). Donato is the third Harvard selection for ECAC Hockey Player of the Year in the last four seasons, and the 10th Harvard selection for the award in program history.
Donato is in the midst of his best season at Harvard, leading the team with 41 points (26 goals, 15 assists) in 28 games. A Hobey Baker Award Top 10 Finalist, All-ECAC Hockey First Team and All-Ivy First Team selection, Donato leads the nation with an average of .93 goals per game, and had a conference-leading .89 points per game in ECAC Hockey contests. He has three hat tricks on the season, with three goals in Harvard's Game 3 series-clinching 4-2 win over Dartmouth on Sunday in the ECAC Quarterfinals.
A native of Scituate, Mass., Donato had a career high 14-game point streak (14 goals, eight assists) to open the season, and was the first player in college hockey to reach 20 goals this year, taking just 19 games to do it. Donato played for the U.S. men's ice hockey team at the 2018 Winter Olympics, leading the team with six points (five goals, assist) before returning to complete the season at Harvard.
Harvard will play No. 3 seed Clarkson in the ECAC Hockey Semifinals at historic Herb Brooks Arena on Friday (March 16) at 7:35 p.m. in Lake Placid, N.Y. The game will be televised on Eleven Sports.
