The Crimson was picked first in the Preseason NEILA Poll by the head coaches (Joe Raymond).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bolstered by five selections to the Preseason All-New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) first team, the Harvard men's lacrosse team has been tabbed as the top Division I program in the region in the Preseason NEILA Poll.
Harvard, which was ranked No. 12 in the Cascade/Maverik Preseason Media Poll and No. 11 in the USILA Preseason Coaches Poll, was selected as the top team in the region by a vote of the head coaches. The Crimson is coming off an NCAA tournament appearance after earning a share of the Ivy League championship. Harvard finished its 2014 season with a 10-7 overall record and 5-1 in the Ivy League, matching the program record for most conference victories.
Bobby Duvnjak, Devin Dwyer, Brian Fischer, Stephen Jahelka and Sean Mahon were each named to the Preseason All-NEILA first team. Duvnjak, Fischer and Jahelka are members of Harvard's defensive unit which allowed 9.76 goals per game last year while holding 11 of its 17 opponents to fewer than 10 goals. Each was selected to the All-NEILA first team following the season with Duvnjak earning All-Ivy League first team honors, Jahelka picking up All-Ivy League second team plaudits and Fischer being named to the Ivy League All-Tournament Team. Additionally, Duvnjak was selected as a USILA All-America honorable mention selection with both Duvnjak and Fischer receiving Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America second team recognition heading into this season.
Dwyer led Harvard's attacking unit in 2014, totaling 47 points on 12 goals and 35 assists as a sophomore. Dwyer was recognized with several postseason awards, including USILA All-America honorable mention, All-Ivy League first team, All-NEILA first team and Ivy League All-Tournament Team honors. The Garden City, New Jersey, native was recognized prior to this season with selection to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America third team.
Mahon was a part of a deep midfield unit for the Crimson last season and totaled 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists. His selection to the Preseason All-NEILA first team is the first honor of his career.
