Burns Nabs Ivy Player of the Week Honors Following Seven-Goal Outburst

Burns picks up his first career Player of the Week honor (Penny Ashford).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Deke Burns of the No. 10/13 Harvard men's lacrosse team has been named Ivy League co-Player of the Week after lifting the Crimson to a come-from-behind win over UMass to open the year.

Burns scored a career-high seven goals in the victory on just nine shots, including two during a 4-0 Harvard run to end the game that allowed the Crimson to overcome a 13-10 deficit. The hat trick was the third of his career, while his seven tallies were the most scored by a member of the Crimson since Jeff Cohen '12 totaled eight versus Michigan on March 31, 2012.

The victory was Harvard's first over UMass since 2011, and improved the Crimson to 23-10 at home under Chris Wojcik '96, The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse.

Burns' selection as Ivy League Player of the Week is the first of his career. He shares this week's honor with Princeton's Mike MacDonald who totaled 11 points on five goals and four assists in the Tigers' 14-12 win over Hofstra.

Harvard will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 28 at No. 6/6 Duke with faceoff scheduled for 2 p.m. live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN App.
