CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 2017 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, which includes Harvard men's lacrosse junior attack Morgan Cheek. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
Cheek, an All-Ivy League second team selection a season ago, paces the Crimson with 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 2017. The Wellesley, Massachusetts native sits first in the country in points per game (7.0), fourth in the country in assists per game (3.33) and No. 7 in goals per game (3.67).
A year ago, Cheek posted 36 goals and 24 assists for 60 points to sit second on the team. In the Ivy League Semifinal against Brown, Cheek went off for a career-high nine goals in the 13-12 upset.
The Tewaaraton Award selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. On April 27, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 11 and invited to the 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony that will be held in Washington, D.C., on June 1.
The Crimson looks to build on its 3-0 start, hosting Vermont Saturday at 4 p.m. on Jordan Field.
