CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's lacrosse first-year Austin Madronic has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
In starting assignments vs. Holy Cross and at Hartford, Madronic tallied five goals and two assists for seven points, while adding six ground balls and two caused turnovers. The freshman's five goals were tied for the team lead, while his points for the week (7), ground ball count (6) and two caused turnovers were the second-highest totals on the team. Madronic put six of his eight shots on net, with five resulting in goals.
Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, Madronic recorded one goal and one assist to go with a then-career-high two ground balls and a career-high one caused turnover in a mid-week game vs. Holy Cross. Then on Saturday at Hartford, Madronic was one of three Crimson players to record a hat trick (career-high 4 goals) and totaled five points in all. All four of his shot attempts resulted in a goal and the first-year now has a team-best two hat tricks this year. Moreover, he added a season- and career-high four ground balls and a career-high one caused turnover vs. the Hawks.
Harvard returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to Providence at Jordan Field. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start and will air on ESPN+.
