CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse, Gerry Byrne, announced the program's 2020 schedule today, Jan. 9. The Crimson's 12-game regular season slate features six home contests in Cambridge at Harvard Stadium.
"When you look at our schedule you see some of the top teams in the country as well as NCAA tournament qualifiers," stated head coach Byrne. "We have our typical Ivy League gauntlet of teams ranked in the top-20 as well as perennial powers from the CAA, Patriot and America East conferences."
Following a scrimmage at Stony Brook on Sunday, Feb. 2, the Crimson will officially begin its 2020 campaign with a front-loaded away slate with its first three games of the season on the road. Harvard will open its season on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. at in-state foe and 2019 CAA Championship finalist Massachusetts, ranked 19th in Inside Lacrosse's preseason poll. The Crimson will then make a short turn around with road tests at Holy Cross (Tuesday, Feb. 25) and Albany (Saturday, Feb. 29) to close out the opening month of competition.
Harvard will open its home slate with a five-game homestand beginning with Fairfield on Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. After its Ivy League home opener against Brown on Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m., the Crimson will host Boston University in a midweek night tilt on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. Harvard welcomes Dartmouth to Cambridge on Saturday, March 21 for a 2 p.m. matchup, before a non-conference clash with Colgate on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. close out its home stretch.
The Crimson will resume Ivy League action with three of its last four games of the regular season on the road. Harvard is set to face three conference opponents in the top 20 of Inside Lacrosse's preseason rankings, including Cornell (No. 12), Penn (No. 5) and Yale (No. 3).
Harvard will travel to Cornell on Saturday, April 4, before trekking to NCAA quarterfinalist Penn on Saturday, April 11. The Crimson will return to Cambridge for its last home matchup against Princeton on Saturday, April 18 at 12 p.m. Harvard will then conclude the regular season with a road trip to NCAA Championship finalist Yale on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
The Ivy League Men's Lacrosse Tournament will be held at the James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. The top four teams from the regular season standings will earn spots in the tournament with semifinal action scheduled for Friday, May 1 and the championship game scheduled for Sunday, May 3.
"We are excited to test ourselves and gauge our growth as a program since last September and see the fruits of our winter training regimen. Our out of conference slate will prepare us well for our goal of playing in the Ivy League Tournament this spring," added Byrne.
Season ticket packages for the home men's lacrosse schedule will be available for purchase for $40 beginning Jan. 27.
