No. 4 Harvard Men's Squash Advances to CSA Semifinal

PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second time this season, the No. 4 Harvard men's squash team defeated No. 5 Rochester and the Crimson advanced to the semifinals of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championship Friday afternoon in Princeton, N.J. Harvard, which clinched the win in the first five matches, took down the Yellow Jackets with a 6-3 final tally.

Of the six matches Harvard won, all were finished within four games and three were 3-0 Crimson sweeps.

Ali Farag continued his dominance of the No. 1 position this season. The freshman stormed past Benjamin Fischer, 3-0 (11-6,11-5,11-9), for his ninth consecutive win in the top spot this season. Junior Jason Michas also swept his opponent from Rochester. The co-captain won a third game tiebreaker to pick up a 3-0 clean sheet over Mohamed Abdel Maksoud.

Gary Power, Tyler Olson and Nigel Koh were also victorious for Harvard. Power beat Joe Chapman, 3-1 (8-11,11-6,14-12,11-7), at No. 3, while Olson trumped Matt Domenick, 3-1 (11-6,11-7,9-11,11-8), and Koh cruised past Karm Kumar, 3-1 (11-5,13-11,7-11,11-4), at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. 

Harvard moves on to face No. 1 Trinity tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the national semifinal. The Bantams were an 8-1 winner over No. 8 Franklin and Marshall Friday afternoon.

In other quarterfinal action, No. 6 Cornell pulled off an upset over No. 3 Yale, 8-1, and No. 2 Princeton beat No. 7 Dartmouth, 8-1. The Big Red and Tigers will meet tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with the winner facing either Harvard or Trinity in the championship match Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
