Three Squash Student-Athletes Move on to Quarterfinals of CSA Individual Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – Six Harvard squash players took the court, Friday, in the first day of the 2015 CSA Individual Championships from Princeton, New Jersey.

Reigning national champion, Amanda Sobhy moved a step closer to winning her fourth-consecutive Ramsey Cup. In the round of 32, Sobhy swept Trinity's Jennifer Davis, dropping only three total points. In the round of 16 she put up a repeat performance, taking down Yale's Shihui Mao, 3-0. Sobhy will take on Penn's Anaka Alankamony, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:15 a.m. in a quarterfinal matchup.

Freshman David Ryan had a strong day, registering two sweeps. In the round of 32, Ryan defeated Rochester's Neil Cordell, 3-0, and in the round of 16, he took down Penn's Marwan Mahmoud by the same score. Ryan moves on to the quarterfinal round of the Pool Trophy tournament to face Cornell's Aditya Jagtap, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 12:20 p.m.

Matt Roberts, Harvard's only entry into the Molloy Cup division, moved on to the quarterfinals after registering two victories. Roberts opened the day with a 3-1 win over Hobart College's Terrance Rose. He then defeated Penn's James Watson, 3-1. Roberts will take on Cornell's Graham Dietz, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10:40 a.m. for a spot in the semifinals.

Freshman Alyssa Mehta and junior Michelle Gemmell also competed in the Ramsey Cup division. Mehta opened the day strong with a sweep of Princeton's Rachel Leizman, but fell to the Tiger's Maria Ubina, 3-0, in the round of 16. She will now take on George Washington's Anna Porras the second round consolation quarterfinal, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. Gemmell fell to Yale's Mao, 3-1, in the round of 32 but bounced back with a 3-0 sweep of Trinity's Davis in a first round consolation game. Gemmell faces off with Bates' Nessrine Ariffin with a chance to move on to the consolation semifinal.

Sophmore Bryan Koh went 1-1 on day one of Pool Trophy division action. In the round of 32, Koh was defeated by Cornell's Jagtap, 3-0. He recovered with a 3-0 sweep of Yale's Sam Fenwick in the first round consolation tournament. Koh now takes on Rochester's Cordell, Saturday, Feb. 28 at 12:20 p.m.
