No. 1 Men’s Squash Clinches Share of Ivy Title with Defeat of No. 20 Brown, 8-1

Sophomore Alexi Gosset recorded his seventh win of the season against the Bears (Gil Talbot).

– The No. 1 Harvard men's squash team took down No. 20 Brown, 8-1, to clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title Friday evening. Harvard is the only team in the Ancient Eight that is undefeated with one more league match to play, guaranteeing the Crimson an Ivy Championship.

The Crimson (10-1, 6-0) bounced back after a tightly-contested battle with No. 2 Trinity Wednesday, handing the Bears (3-8, 0-6 Ivy) an 8-1 defeat. Harvard clinched a share of its fourth Ivy League title in the last five years with the win.

Harvard cruised from the opening match, as the No. 1-8 positions swept their matches against the Bears. Freshmen Saadeldin Abouaish and Timothy Brownell set the tone with 3-0 wins at the top two spots for the Crimson. Freshman Sean Hughes also breezed to a sweep at No. 4.

Senior captains Bryan Koh and Devin McLaughlin dominated at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, while juniors David Ryan ad Mandela Patrick notched 3-0 in their own matches. Sophomore Alexi Gosset earned his seventh win of the season with a sweep at No. 7.

The Crimson will return to action when it hosts Yale at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Harvard can win the Ivy Championship outright with a win over the Bulldogs.
