No. 2 Men’s Squash Reaches CSA Team Championship with 5-4 Win Over No. 3 Columbia

– The No. 2 men's squash team battled for a 5-4 victory over No. 3 Columbia on Saturday afternoon to earn a spot in the CSA Team Championship against No. 1 Trinity. The Crimson is looking for its first Potter Cup since the 2013-14 campaign.

Harvard (13-1, 7-0 Ivy) took down Columbia (12-3, 6-1 Ivy) for the second time this season, previously beating the Lions 8-1 on Feb. 4. The Crimson handily defeated No. 7 Yale Friday by an 8-1 margin in the first round of the national championships.

Harvard found itself in a tight contest with Lions early, but received key contributions from junior Madhav Dhingra and sophomore Alexi Gosset with 3-2 victories in their matches. Dhingra fell in the first game, before taking the next two games and securing the 11-7 win in the fifth game at No. 3. Gosset was trailing, 2-1, before he rattled off consecutive wins to take the match at No. 9.

Freshmen Sean Hughes and Timothy Brownell continued their dominant play with sweeps at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Hughes moved to 13-0 on the year, while Brownell picked up his 12th victory. Senior captain Devin McLaughlin helped seal the victory for Harvard, moving to 12-0 on the year with a sweep at No. 8.

Harvard now faces No. 1 Trinity, who handed the Crimson its only loss of the season by a score of 5-4 on Feb. 8.
