ATHENS, Ga. – The Harvard men's tennis team concluded the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament today, Sept. 29, with first-year Henry von der Schulenburg competing in the finals of the silver singles draw.
After dropping the first set, 6-4, against Marcus McDaniel of Georgia Tech, von der Schulenburg rallied back to force the second set to seven games, before falling, 7-5.
"I am proud of the way all three guys competed throughout the weekend," said assistant coach Sanam Singh. "It was a great event with some of the top teams in college tennis including, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Wake Forest. I was very happy with the way our guys battled in some very hot and humid conditions in Athens. These events are great for us, as they help our guys gain experience and prove that they are capable pf competing with the top echelon of college tennis."
In regards to individual play, Singh stated, "Unfortunately, Ronan was battling the flu and was limited on days two and three. Lane is really starting to find his rhythm and another four solid matches is just what he needed this weekend. Henry was super impressive all weekend with three wins and showed great maturity as a first-year in some tense situations. We are happy to be coming home with a little hardware."
- Von der Schulenburg claimed all of his singles victories in straight sets.
- Von der Schulenburg has a winning record through the fall season, going 5-2 during play at the Napa Valley Classic and Southern Intercollegiates
The Crimson will be back in action in Hanover, N.H. at the Dartmouth Invite, Oct. 4-6.
