No. 14 Men's Water Polo Defeats No. 12 Princeton, 10-9

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 14 Harvard men's water polo team defeated No. 12 Princeton Saturday night at Blodgett Pool, 10-9. Junior Nick Bunn got the Crimson on the board with the first goal of the night and secured the game-winner to give Harvard its first victory of the weekend. 

Sophomore Charlie Owens netted the second goal for the Crimson, the first of three for the sophomore. Owens scored the fourth and sixth goals for the Crimson as well.

Senior captain Colin Chiapello netted the 3-3 equalizer for the Crimson in the second quarter, before Owens found the back of the net for the second time to edge the Crimson to a 4-3 lead heading into halftime. The Crimson earned a fifth point when junior Grayson Judge found the back of the net in the third quarter, followed by Owens' third goal of the night. Sophomore Austin Sechrest followed up with his lone goal of the night. At the end of the third quarter, at the buzzer, freshman Jackson Enright scored the equalizer to send the Crimson and Tigers into the fourth quarter tied at eight goals apiece.

Enright scored his second goal of the game in the fourth quarter, once again tying the game at nine goals apiece. Bunn scored the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter, on a 6-on-5 to give the Crimson the victory. 

Harvard Highlights:

  • Junior Nick Bunn scored the first goal of the night and the game-winner for the Crimson, totaling two goals against the Tigers.
  • Sophomore Charlie Owens netted three goals, matching his career-best. 
  • Goalkeeper Anthony Ridgley made 10 saves for Harvard.

  • Harvard moves to 17-29 all-time against Princeton.

The Crimson continues action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against Iona, before facing St. Francis (N.Y.) at 3 p.m. Both games will air on the Ivy League Network.
