BRIDGEPORT, Pa.- The No. 9 Harvard men's water polo earned two Northeast Water Polo Conference weekly honors. Sophomore Dennis Blyashov garnered Player of the Week while senior Anthony Ridgley was named Defensive Player of the Week. This marks the first weekly awards on the season for the pair.
Blyashov helped lead the Crimson to a 3-1 record over the weekend at the Aggie Round Up, totaling 12 goals, nine assists, three blocks and five designated kick outs. During the historic win over No. 3 California, Blyashov tallied four goals, one block, two designated kick outs and five assists. Two of Blyashov's assists were crucial to the Crimson win, the tying goal from Nathan Ondracek to push the match into golden goal and the winning shot from Austin Sechrest.
While in the net on the weekend, Ridgley put together 26 saves and an assist. The senior recorded a new career-high in the win over the Golden Bears with 20 saves and an assist. Ridgley kept California at bay throughout the game and became a wall during the fourth quarter and the overtime periods.
