No 12. Men’s Water Polo Takes Down No. 18 Princeton to Tie Longest Win Streak in Program History

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 12 Harvard men's water polo team opened up conference play with a 12-9 victory over Princeton. The Crimson have now won 10 straight matches to start the season.

Trailing in the first, Harvard tied the game in the second quarter off of a penalty shot by sophomore Alex Tsotadze and then took the lead on the ensuing play off a goal from senior captain Charlie Owens.

Both Owens and junior Dennis Blyashov had hat-tricks to lead the Crimson in scoring on the day. For Harvard's final goal of the game, sophomore goalie Noah Hodge fired a full-court pass to Blyashov to secure the victory and earn Blyashov his hattrick. Sophomore Michael Sonsini also aided the Crimson on offense with one goal and four assists on the day.

On defense, Hodge protected the Crimson's lead with 10 saves in the second half, including a 5M penalty block to end the game.

Harvard Highlights

  • The Crimson remain undefeated on the season with a 10-0 record.
  • Three players have scored 20+ goals so far this season, Owens (27), Blyashov (23) and Tsotadze (21).
  • Junior Bruno Snow recorded a career-high six steals.

The Crimson heads to New York to take on No. 17 St. Francis (N.Y.) and Iona tomorrow, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively.
