It has been a privilege and an honor to be an athlete at Harvard these past four years. When I compare my athletic experience to those of my friends playing at other schools and other leagues, I feel even more fortunate that I was able to continue to play the sport that I love at a school that valued both my desire to play on a highly competitive team, with fine coaches, access to amazing facilities and resources, all while being able to take the classes that I wanted to take, and to be part of the larger Harvard community.
Harvard sailing student-athletes Lena Episalla and Eli Burnes were named ICSA All-Americans for their efforts during the 2018-19 campaign. Episalla was part of the 19-member ICSA All-American Crew, with Burnes landing on the coed honorable mention skipper list.
Harvard sailing first-year Emma Kaneti was named a 2019 ICSA Honorable Mention Women’s All-American Skipper, following competition at the Sperry College Sailing Women’s National Championship in late May at Sail Newport Sailing Center in Newport, Rhode Island.
NEWPORT, R.I.—The No. 10 Harvard women’s sailing team capped off the season with a second-place finish at the 2019 ICSA Women’s National Championship, earning 199 total points. The second-place performance marks the program’s best finish since 2005, when the Crimson brought home the title.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—After qualifying for the second-consecutive season, the No. 10 Harvard women’s sailing team readies for the ICSA Women’s National Championship this week, May 21-24, at Sail Newport in Newport, R.I. The Crimson will open competition with the Sperry Women’s Eastern Semifinals, May 21-22, with the top nine teams from both the Eastern and Western semifinals advancing to the Sperry Women’s Finals, May 23-24.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Following a 10th-place finish at the 2019 New England Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Coed Championship last weekend, four members of the Harvard coed sailing team were named to the 2019 Coed All-NEISA team. Sophomores Henry Burnes and Eli Burnes were both tabbed as Second-Team All-NEISA Skipper selections, while seniors Lena Episalla and Catherine Tang picked up All-NEISA Crew First- and Second-team honors, respectively.
BOWDOIN, Maine—The No. 13 Harvard coed sailing team closed out its season at the 2019 NEISA Coed Championship hosted by Bowdoin last weekend, April 27-28. With a combined score of 255 points, the Crimson finished 10th in a highly competitive field.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Spending time at three local races this weekend, the No. 13 Harvard sailing team clinched three top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup. In addition, the women’s team punched its ticket to the ICSA Women’s Championship with a sixth-place finish at the NEISA Women’s Championship, while the coed team secured a seventh-place result at the Morris Trophy hosted by Boston University.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Senior Taylor Gavula and first-year Emma Kaneti were named to the All-New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association(NEISA) Second Team for their performances at skipper this season, as announced by the conference on Sunday. In addition, Kaneti earned NEISA Rookie of the Year honors for her breakout performance on the Crimson’s top line.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—In its penultimate weekend of regular-season competition, the Harvard sailing team readies for a trio of local regattas this weekend, April 20-21. The No. 13 coed team is set to split time between the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup at home and the Morris Trophy hosted by Boston University. Meanwhile, the No. 5 women’s crew is set to close out its regular-season slate at the NE Women’s Championship hosted by MIT.
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Competing in four regattas across the Northeast this past weekend, the No. 13 Harvard coed sailing team earned an impressive third-place finish at the Owen, Mosbacher-Knapp Trophies. The coed team will take on the Thompson Trophy at Connecticut College, the Oberg Trophy hosted by MIT and Northeastern, and the Ivy League Championships hosted by Yale. In addition, the women’s crew will set its sights on the Women’s National Team Race Invitational hosted by Brown. To close out the weekend, the coed crew will return to the water on Sunday, April 14, for the Central Series 4 at Tufts.

The women’s crew, meanwhile, prepares to compete on the Charles River in the Duplin Women’s Team Race.

The women’s crew placed second overall at the St. Mary’s Interconference and the coed team finished seventh at the Ike Geiger Team Race hosted by MIT. Narrowly missing the top-10 cut, the Crimson also earned 11th at the Graham Hall trophy hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy.

PLEASANT, S.C.—The Harvard sailing team opened the spring with a pair of races this weekend, splitting competition between the Bavier Team Race hosted by College of Charleston and the Sharpe Trophy Team Race hosted by Brown. The Crimson finished the weekend with a fourth-place finish in Mt. Pleasant and an eight-place finish in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Harvard coed and women’s sailing teams closed out the fall season ranked eighth and 11th respectively in the Sailing World’s Fall 2018 College Rankings, as announced on Nov. 20.
In his first career ICSA Singlehanded National Championship appearance, first-year Henry Marshall sailed to a commanding first-place finish. This is Marshall’s first collegiate national championship title, and the first time in 15 years that Harvard won the Glen S. Foster Trophy.
After earning a first-place finish at the New England Men’s Singlehanded Championships in September, first year Henry Marshall is set to sail at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship hosted by Hope College (Mich.) this weekend, Nov. 3-4.
The Harvard sailing team earned three top-10 finishes this weekend to close out the fall slate, including a third-place finish at the 78th Professor Schell Trophy hosted by Dartmouth. In addition to their top-three finish, the team earned sixth at the Nickerson Trophy hosted by Tufts and seventh at the Victorian Urn Trophy hosted by Bowdoin.
