No. 10 Women’s Sailing Readies for Opening Round of ICSA Women’s National Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—After qualifying for the second-consecutive season, the No. 10 Harvard women's sailing team readies for the ICSA Women's National Championship this week, May 21-24, at Sail Newport in Newport, R.I. The Crimson will open competition with the Sperry Women's Eastern Semifinals, May 21-22, with the top nine teams from both the Eastern and Western semifinals advancing to the Sperry Women's Finals, May 23-24. 

Competitors will open the semifinal round on Tuesday with westerly winds between 11 to 15 knots, with gusts reaching as high as 24 knots throughout the day. Seas will stay at around one foot or less across day one. Conditions will remain steady moving into day two, with winds maintaining between 10 to 13 knots, before dropping to seven to 10 knots later in the afternoon.

What to Know
-The Crimson clinched a spot in the 2019 ICSA Women's National Championship after securing a sixth-place finish at the NEISA Women's Championship in April.
-Following a successful season out on the water, first-year Emma Kaneti and senior Taylor Gavula received second team All-NEISA recognition for their performance at skipper.
-In addition to her All-NEISA second team selection, Kaneti was also named the women's NEISA Rookie of the Year.
-Across the 2018-19 campaign, the women's team amassed four top-10 finishes and eight top-5 performances over 15 regattas.
