PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Maddy Kaplan, freshman Rhianna Rich and senior Morgan Groom earned Player, Rookie and co-Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, from the Ivy League Wednesday, as announced by the conference office.

The awards cap an outstanding week for the Crimson, as Harvard earned the North Division title Tuesday and are preparing to host the 2016 Ivy League Championship Series this weekend at Soldiers Field.

Kaplan proved to be one of the toughest outs in the Dartmouth series, batting .700 (7-for-10), while also earning four walks for an on-base mark of .786. Of her seven hits, four went for extra bases with three doubles and a home run. Twice in the Dartmouth series, Kaplan provided the game-winning run. In the first game on Saturday, her RBI single back up the middle gave Harvard a 4-2 advantage, as it staved off the Big Green for a 4-3 victory. In the final game, and in the final inning of the regular season on Tuesday, Kaplan laced a double to left field with the bases loaded to score two runs, putting Harvard ahead, 6-5, as it went on to defeat Dartmouth, 8-5, and earn the North Division crown.

Rich was nearly as impressive at the dish, also racking up seven hits and three walks for a batting average of .583 and an on-base mark of .667. She also slammed three doubles and a homer, with her long ball in the bottom of the sixth in game two Saturday breaking a 5-5 tie an counting for the game-winning tally. The hit came with two outs in the frame for the Crimson. The Rookie of the Week honor is the second this year for Rich.

Groom pitched in all four games of the Dartmouth series, totaling 15.1 innings, while garnering the wins in the opener and series finale. The Big Green hitters struggled with the senior co-captain in the circle, batting just .164 against her. Groom racked up 17 strikeouts in the series, including seven on Saturday when she pitched a complete game to begin the weekend. She also came on in relief and pitched the final 2.2 innings in Hanover without allowing a hit as Harvard rallied for the victory.

With the awards this week, Harvard has earned eight weekly honors from the Ivy League this season.
