Giaquinto, Lockhart Earn Ivy League Softball Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Freshman Olivia Giaquinto and sophomore Erin Lockhart both earned Ivy League weekly honors, the conference announced today (May 1). Giaquinto was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, while Lockhart earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors.

Giaquinto helped Harvard to a 4-1 record and an Ivy North Division title with a monster week at the plate and a solid performance in the circle. Giaquinto hit a three-run home run in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader at Dartmouth to put Harvard ahead 3-0 en route to a 7-6 victory. She added two hits with a double, a walk and a run scored in a 9-2 win later that day. On Sunday, she single-handedly made the difference in Harvard's division clinching win again the Big Green, smacking two 3-run home runs in the fourth and fifth innings to help turn a 2-0 deficit into to a 7-2 Harvard lead. In Game 2 on Sunday, she added another two hits, including a double and an RBI. She also pitched four shutout innings, scattering three hits to earn her second win of the season.

Lockhart continued an impressive streak of 16 straight games with either a walk or a hit, going 6-for-12 (.500) with six runs scored, two HRs, seven RBI, and four walks in five games this week. Lockhart gave Harvard a commanding 5-0 lead in Game 1 against Dartmouth on Saturday with a 2-run HR. She went 2-for-3 with another home run, adding a run and three RBIs in Game 2 on Saturday. Her three run homer helped Harvard jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. On Sunday, Lockhart walked and scored twice in Game 1 against Dartmouth, and added two more hits and two RBIs in a 8-0 win in Game 2 against the Big Green.

Harvard won a seventh division title in program history to earn a rematch with Princeton in the Ivy League Championship series. The Crimson will play Games 1 and 2 in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday (May 6) with Game 3 on Sunday (May 7) if necessary.
