FULLERTON, Calif.- Concluding its time at the Easton Invitational, the Harvard softball team (6-8) fell to DePaul, 5-0 and Long Beach State, 8-0.
DePaul; L, 5-0
In the first of two contests on the day, Harvard faced the Blue Demons from DePaul who tallied the first run of the game after a single followed by an RBI double. The Blue Demons continued their offensive attack notching another run in the bottom of the third followed by another three in the fifth.
During the top of the sixth, Harvard saw three hits in total, beginning with a single through the left side from Kaitlyn Schiffhauer. Meagan Lantz notched another one through the left-side followed by a Teagan Shaw center field single to force a DePaul pitching change. Unfortunately, after the switch, the Crimson had difficulty bringing runners around and fell, 5-0.
Long Beach State; L, 8-0
Jumping out to a 3-0 lead at the bottom of the first, the 49ers strung together two singles, a walk, and an RBI triple while keeping the Crimson at bay. Long Beach State added five more to their lead for an 8-0 score. Harvard was able to keep its opponents scoreless for the remainder of the game, allowing time for the Crimson to answer back.
Seeing life in the top of third, Harvard's Alyssa Saldana began a small hit rally after using her speed for a single to the shortstop. Following up, first-year Trina Hoang placined the ball through the left side defense. Despite runners in scoring position after a wild pitch, the Crimson struggled to bring them around. The squad was forced to conclude the game in five innings after lacking runs throughout the remainder of the game.
- Senior Meagan Lantz tabbed a 1.000 batting average in the contest against DePaul.
- First-year Teagan Shaw has recorded at least one hit in each game on the day.
The Crimson continues its California campaign when it takes on Boise State at 1 p.m. and host Loyola Marymount at 3:30 p.m. on March 19, 3:30 p.m.
