Alpine Skiing Team Kicks Off UVM Carnival

Rittenhouse and the alpine squad returned to the slopes at the UVM Carnival.

STOWE, Vt. – The alpine skiing team kicked off the UVM Carnival last weekend at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont.

Kelly Steeves paced the way for the women's team, earning season bests in both the giant slalom and slalom. Pieter Weemaes posted the top spot for the men's squad in the giant slalom, while Kalvis Hornburg crossed the line first in the slalom.

Steeves started the weekend by placing 25th in the giant slalom at 2:20.62. Molly Leavens clocked in at 2:28.60 to place No. 43 and Kaitlyn Gibson ticked in at 50th with a time of 2:40.02.

On the men's side, Weemaes came in at 2:15.94 to finish 41st, while Simon Merryweather followed at 2:17.02 in the giant slalom. Dennis Bao crossed the finish line at 2:30.03 for the No. 40 spot to round out the field.

Steeves posted another top-25 finish, clocking in at 2:14.56 to grab 24th in the slalom. Samantha Udolf was the lone other finisher for the Crimson, coming in at 37th with a time of 2:43.41.

In the men's slalom, Hornburg ticked in at 36th in his first run of the season at 2:13.06. Dan Rittenhouse followed with a time of 2:13.22 and Bao clocked in a 2:36.44 to take home 44th.

The nordic team will wrap-up the UVM carnival this weekend, returning to Stowe for competition Feb. 5-6.
