Armstrong Named to U.S. Junior Biathlon World Championship Team

Sophomore Nina Armstrong will represent the United States at the upcoming Junior World Biathlon Championships (Gil Talbot).

. – Sophomore Nina Armstrong of the Harvard nordic ski team was selected to the U.S. Junior (U21) World Biathlon Championship team after competing at the national team trials this past week. More than 40 athletes participated in the trials at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, Vermont.

Armstrong turned in strong performances throughout the trails, even while facing adverse weather conditions, finishing as the top Junior Women's finisher in multiple events. The sophomore won Thursday's pursuit event and Friday's sprint, and garnered the second-best time for a Junior in Wednesday's sprint. She clocked a final time of 22:28.2 in Friday's sprint and finished the pursuit in 42 minutes and 26 seconds. 

The Junior Biathlon World Championships will take place at Feb. 22-28 at a site to be determined. Armstrong is joined on the US squad by Siena Ellingson of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Hannah Streinz of Hersey, Maine.

Armstrong and the Crimson begin its 2017 campaign at the St. Lawrence Carnival in Lake Placid, New York Jan. 20-21.
