Gabby Thomas Wins 200m at IAAF Diamond League Meet

Competing against an elite field, Gabby Thomas won the 200 meters at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Switzerland. 

LAUSANNE, Switzterland –
Senior sprinter Gabby Thomas won the 200 meters this afternoon (July 5) at the prestigious IAAF Diamond League Athletissima meet, held at the Stade de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Competing against an elite field that included several Olympians and champions from around the world, Thomas pulled ahead of the pack in lane 4 at the second turn and finished first in 22.47. The IAAF Diamond League title adds to what has been a memorable year on the track for Thomas.

The USTFCCCA Northeast Women's Track Athlete of the Year, Thomas ran wind-legal, school record times of 11.19 and 22.32 this spring, along with wind-aided times of 10.99 and 22.13. A USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the 200 meters, Thomas placed second at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in her signature event, her best career finish at the national meet.

A native of Florence, Mass., Thomas became the first Ivy League women's sprinter to win an indoor national championship in the 200 meters, setting a new collegiate record with her 22.38 mark in the final event heat of the NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field Championships at Texas A&M.
