Three Join Women's Fencing for 2012-13 Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard women's fencing head coach Peter Brand announced the addition of three fencers to his squad for the upcoming season. Two members of the class of 2016 are epee fencers, while the third is a foil sabre fencer.

The Crimson posted a 15-6 overall record in 2011-12, while going 4-2 in the Ivy League, finishing third in the conference. Harvard also finished sixth at the NCAA Championships and had five fencers earn All-Ivy honors and two receive All-America accolades.

In 2011, Tillman claimed the No. 2 ranking in both the Bay Cup senior and junior women's epee points … Helped her four person senior women's epee team to secure fourth place in the U.S. at the 2011 U.S. Fencing National Championship … Won 2011 junior women's epee Northern California Junior Olympics Qualifier… Ranked 20th in 2012 junior women's epee at Portland North American Cup tournament…Earned U.S. Fencing Association "C2012" ranking in epee fencing … Finished 2012 season ranked as No. 48 junior women's epee at Junior Olympics … Claimed No. 2 ranking in 2012 Bay Cup senior women's epee points … Member of the Fencing All Academic First Team in 2012 … Father, Robert Tillman ('78), fenced for Harvard.

Attained No. 1 ranking in Y14 and U17 age groups … Placed second in Cadet circuit event in Modling, Austria in 2010 … Finished third in Cadet circuit event in Grenoble, France in 2010 … Ranked second U17 NAC in January 2011 … Came in sixth at the U20 2012 Junior Olympics … Currently ranked ninth in the nation in U20 age category … Brother, Mike Van Loon, attended University Pennsylvania on a football scholarship, graduated 1998.
