Itzkowitz, Lee post 9-0 records to lead Harvard to eighth-straight Beanpot (Gil Talbot).
WALTHAM, Mass. – For the eighth-straight year, the Harvard women's fencing team earned a championship at the Beanpot after taking down teams from MIT (22-5), Boston College (19-8) and Brandeis (21-6). The Crimson improved to 14-5-1 with the victories.
The sabre squad led the way for Harvard, as Aliya Itzkowitz and Kara Lee turned in perfect 9-0 records. Adrienne Jarocki was close behind, ending at 8-1. Among foil fencers, Hali Nelson recorded a 7-2 record, while MacKenzie Lawrence finished unbeaten at 6-0. Emma Väggö's 7-2 mark led the epee group.
Harvard began the Beanpot against MIT, coming away with a 22-5 victory. The sabre and foil teams helped Harvard get out to an insurmountable lead, with both groups finishing on top, 8-1.
In round two, Boston College proved to be no match for Harvard, as the Crimson picked up a 19-8 decision. The sabre team recorded a decisive 9-0 victory, and the foil team defeated its counterpart, 6-3.
In the final matchup of the evening, Harvard handled Brandeis, 21-6 to don to the crown. Behind 9-0 and 8-1 results from the sabre and foil groups, the Crimson put the bout out of question early en route to earning the title.
Harvard continues its 2015 season at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by NYU at the Coles Center, March 8. The top fencers at the event will have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships.
