PHILADELPHIA, Penn.- On the road at Penn, women's fencing scored a 3-3 record to kick off its season.
In Harvard's epee bouts on the strip Cindy Gao went 3-0 against Temple in the second round of the Elite Invitational. The Crimson would go on to defeat the Owls 16-11.
In the next two rounds the women would notch back to back victories against Penn, 15-12 and Air Force, 15-12. Foil specialist and team captain Natalie Yang took on a big part in scoring winning all three of her bouts against Penn. First-year Karina Wang tabbed a 4-2 record in foil across the two rounds in her first tournament on the collegiate stage.
Senior saber fencer and team captain Marta Lasota tabbed a 7-2 record in the teams three losses. Sophomore saber specialist Veronica Czyzewski also went 7-2 in those final three rounds to round out the day for the Crimson.
- Harvard won three straight matches against Temple, Penn and Air Force to begin the season.
- First-years Karina Wang and Maria Theodore made their collegiate debuts for the Crimson.
