Golf Programs Welcome Four Members of the Class of 2019

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Fred Schernecker '89, The Paul M. Weissman '52 Director of Harvard Golf, will welcome four incoming freshmen, two to the men's team and two to the women's squad, for the 2015-16 season.

Please join me in welcoming the Class of 2019. 

The highlights below are focused primarily on golf accomplishments.  We are proud that all team members, including our incoming freshmen, are representative of the academic excellence embodied by Harvard.  They each have impressive credentials in the classroom and in other leadership roles.

We will have two additions to the women's team who continue the tradition of team members from Northern California.  Our incoming freshmen are from the same town and attended rival high schools.

Michelle Xie (Palo Alto, CA; Palo Alto High School)

  • USGA-AJGA Presidents' Leadership Award Finalist (2014)
  • HP Scholastic Junior All-American (2013, 2014)
  • Girls Golf Central Coastal Section Individual Champion (2013, 2014)
  • Four AJGA top-six finishes (2014)
  • High School Girls Golf CIF Northern California Individual Champion (2013)
  • California State Girls Championship Runner-up (2013)
  • National Merit Finalist (2015)
  • First Tee Scholar (2015)
  • Ranked 49th nationally in the class of 2015 (Junior Golf Scoreboard)

Anna Zhou (Palo Alto, CA; Gunn High School)

  • USGA-AJGA Presidents' Leadership Award Finalist (2015)
  • HP Scholastic Junior All-American (2013, 2014)
  • Rolex Junior All-American Team (2013, 2014)
  • AJGA Junior All-Star Team (2013)
  • Tied AJGA Record for most consecutive wins (4, in 2013)
  • Won AJGA Open at Serrano (2014)
  • Medalist at US Junior Championship Qualifier with round of seven-under 65 (2014)
  • Qualified for US Women's Championship (2013)
  • Qualified for US Junior Championship and advanced to round of 32 (2014)
  • Ranked 19th nationally in the class of 2015 (Polo Golf Rankings)

We will have two additions to the men's team, as well.

  • Belgium Junior Champion (2011, 2012, 2013)
  • Belgium National Matchplay Men's Champion (2013)
  • Belgium Junior Master Champion (2012, 2014)
  • European Boys Challenge Trophy - team win (2013)
  • Quarter Finalist at British Boys Championship (2013)

Seiya Liu (Beverly Hills, CA; IMG Academy - FL)

  • Brother of former team member -- Seiji Liu '14
  • HP Scholastic Junior All-American (2014)
  • FCWT Scholastic All-American (2013)
  • USGA-AJGA Presidents' Leadership Award Finalist (2013)
  • Ranked 56th on Golfweek for the class of 2015
  • Finished 5th at AJGA New Era Championship (2014)
  • Represented team USA for USA-China Youth Golf Match (2013)
  • Finished 3rd at AJGA Florida Open (2012)
