OXFORD, Miss. – The Harvard women's golf team placed third at the 2016 Rebel Intercollegiate over the weekend led by strong individual play from freshman Anna Zhou.
Hosted at the par-72, 6,323-yard Ole Miss Golf Course, the Crimson completed the 54-hole tournament at +31 with its total score of 895 standing as the 10th-lowest 54-hole total in program history. The team wrapped up the weekend with its best performance on Sunday, firing a plus-6 294, the 13th-lowest round in program history.
Troy won the team competition at plus-7 (871) with Ole Miss following in second at plus-24 (888). Fresno State tied the Crimson at plus-31 (895), and East Tennessee State rounded out the top-five of 15-team field at plus-38 (902).
Zhou showed steady improvement throughout the weekend to finish in fifth place of the individual competition at plus-2 (218). The freshman opened with a 75 (+3) on Friday and followed that with a 73 on Saturday (+1), before firing a team-low round of 70 (-2) on Sunday. Zhou's weekend total score of 218 was the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in program history with her third-round 70 standing as the eighth-lowest single-round score.
Anne Cheng also enjoyed a solid weekend, finishing tied for 11th at plus-6 (222). Cheng carded her best round of 71 (-1) on Friday, but fell back in the pack on Saturday with a 77 (+5). She returned strong on Sunday and concluded her tournament with a 74 (+2).
Also competing for the Crimson were Christine Lin, Nina Fairbairn, and Michelle Xie. Lin finished in a tie for 21st place at plus-11 (227), with Fairbairn (+13, 229) and Xie (+18, 234) tying for 30th and 56th, respectively.
