Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Nine Freshmen for 2015 Season

The Crimson is coming off a 9-7 season in 2014 (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lisa Miller, the head coach of Harvard women's lacrosse, has announced the addition of nine student-athletes for the 2015 season as Caroline Ashford, Meredith Brown, Julia Glynn, Eliza Guild, Olivia Gundrum, Julia Lennon, Nekele McCall, Hailey Novis and Jill Scyocurka will suit up for the Crimson next spring.

The Class of 2018 consists of two goalies, two attackers, four midfielders and one defender. The newcomers join a team that finished 9-7 and earned a berth in the Ivy League tournament last season.

Caroline Ashford |Forward | 6-1 | Wilmington, Del. | Deerfield Academy
Three-year starter for Deerfield Academy …  A three-time All-New England Founders League selection (2012-2014) … Named a 2013 Under Armour All-American in 2013… In the classroom she made the honor roll all four years of high school … Was involved in many community service activities including, Relay for Life, Feeding NYC and the Association to Benefit Children Thanksgiving Project … Very interested in the fashion world, interning with Figue Studio in New York City and working at the Peter Kate boutique in Delaware … She has six family members that attended Harvard including her father, two grandparents, two uncles and a cousin … Her mother, Penny, was on the crew team at Mount Holyke and her uncle, John Hebert, was the captain of the Stanford football team.

Meredith Brown | Goalie | 5-7 | Annapolis, Md. | Severn School
Four-year varsity letter winner at the Severn School … Led her team to a No. 2 ranking in the state of Maryland … Also named the IAAM 1A Best Defender of the Year and an Academic All-American as a senior … Lettered in swimming and field-hockey for the Severn School … Played goalie for Maryland United Club lacrosse team for five years from 2009-2013 … Received the Principal's Award and was named Vice President of the senior class … Her sister Bridget played lacrosse at William & Mary, graduating in 2014 and her brother, Chase, is entering his junior season with the Michigan lacrosse team.

Julia Glynn |Midfield | 5-7 | Manhasset, N.Y. | Manhasset
Four-year letter winner at Manhasset … Named to the Nassau County All-County team, the All-Long Island team and the U.S. Lacrosse All-American teams in 2012, 2013 and 2014 … Was named the 2014 Nassau County, Long Island and the Inside Lacrosse Northeast Player of the Year after leading her team to a New York State Championship … Was a six year starter in the midfield for the Long Island Liberty lacrosse club team … In the classroom she finished in the top 10 percent of her class, was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Raymond L. Colins Scholarship… Her community service efforts include the Manhasset Junior Coalition Against Breast Cancer, Key Club, Surfrider Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.

Eliza Guild | Midfield | 5-9 | North Chatham, Mass. | Lincoln-Sudbury Regional
Started all four years in the midfield for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional … Had a strong senior season, captaining the team and led Dual County League in scoring with 72 goals … She was named an EMGLCA All-Star and the Sudbury Town County Crier Female Athlete of the Year as a senior … She was also named to both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams as a senior … Led her team to Dual County League Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2014 … She also lettered in soccer and track for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional …  Started six seasons in the midfield for the Revolution Lacrosse Black Team club team … Was a member of the Cum Laude Society and a recipient of the Harvard Book Award in 2013.

Olivia Gundrum |Goalie | 5-6 | Grafton, N.Y. | Emma Willard School
Four-year starter in goal for the Emma Willard School … Was named to the Capital District Women's All-league team all four seasons of high school … Led her team to the Section 2 Class C finals in 2013 and 2014 … Played for the Ablany Elite and ADK club teams … Was also a four-year field hockey starter at the Emma Willard School, earning All-League honors every year … In the classroom, she was an Upstate New York Scholar, Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper and was named to the U.S. Lacrosse All-Academic team in 2012 and 2013 … Her father, Rye, played football at Muhlenberg College, her mother, Susan, participated in cross-country and track at Siena College and her sister, Francesca, is a member of the Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse team.

Julia Lennon |Midfield | 5-4 | Loudonville, N.Y. | Shaker
Four-year letter winner in the midfield for Shaker … Named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American as a junior and senior … Named the Albany Times Union Athlete of the Year after scoring 100 goals and leading the team to a NYS Section II Class A Championship Regional Final … Was a 2014 National Honor Society member … Her community involvement included The Shaker SOS Club, the Best Buddies program and the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Nekele McCall |Midfield | 5-8 | Cambridge, Mass. | Phillips Academy
Started four years in the midfield for Phillips Academy … Was a NEPSAC Lacrosse All-Star four straight years … She is also a two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American … Played two seasons as a midfielder for Team Rev lacrosse club team … Was a four-year letter winner in soccer and basketball at Shaker as well … Her father, Kevin '76, played lacrosse at Harvard.

Hailey Novis | Forward | 5-6 | Jamestown, R.I. | Phillips Academy Andover
Four-year letter winner at Philips Academy Andover … Earned the Phillips K. Allen Award for character and the Phelps Award for sportsmanship … She also played three years in the midfield for Team Real club team … Also lettered in soccer, swimming and cross country … She is very involved in the community working with the Sunday Swim program, teaching disabled children to swim …  Her father Bruce '87 played water polo, her mother, Esther '87 played field hockey and her brother, Austen '16, is currently on the water polo team.

Jill Scyocurka | Midfield | 5-5 | Longmeadow, Mass. | Longmeadow
Started in the midfield all four years at Longmeadow … Led Longmeadow to Western Mass Championships from 2011-2013 and to state Finals in 2011 and 2013 … Earned All-Western Mass and All-League honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior … She was also named a US Lacrosse First-Team All-American in lacrosse as a junior …  Also played soccer, basketball and field hockey at Longmeadow, earning All-Western Mass honors in those sports … Exceled in the classroom, receiving numerous academic awards and scholarships including, the National Spanish Award, American International Book Award and the Joseph LaVally Scholarship Award … She is also very active in the community, assisting with Food for the Soul and the Don't Just Sit There organization n… Her brothers, Alex and Nathan, play football at Williams College and Colby College, respectively.
