ITHACA, N.Y. – The Harvard wrestling team opened Ivy League competition Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 6 Cornell, 33-6.
The host Big Red won eight of 10 bouts including four wins with bonus points. Harvard's pair of victories came at 133 pounds and 197 pounds, with junior Ryan Osleeb picking up the Crimson's first win.
Osleeb nocked off Logan David via a 7-0 decision, moving Harvard to within 6-3 in the team scores. Todd Preston entered the third period of his 141 lbs. bout against No. 7 Mike Nevinger with a chance to even the score, but Nevinger escaped from the down position early in the third period for a 1-0 victory.
James Fox earned Harvard's second victory with an 8-4 decision over Jace Bennett. Fox scored a late takedown in the second period and reversed Bennett in the third for the win.
Harvard will welcome Boston University to Cambridge next Saturday, Jan. 25, in its home opener. The Crimson and Terriers will take to the mat at 7:30 p.m.
