Emba Earns Alternate Spot on USA Olympic Team

Women's rugby alumna Cheta Emba '15 has been selected as a travel reserve for Team USA (Gill Talbot).

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Former Harvard rugby and women's soccer standout Cheta Emba '15 has been selected to represent the United States at the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games as a travel reserve, USA Rugby recently announced. Emba will be one of 14 athletes who was chosen to travel to Rio and embark on the first women's Rugby Sevens competition in Olympic history.

Emba, one of two alternates for the USA squad, earned a place on the national team after playing for the women's national 15s rugby team this summer in the 2016 Super Series. The Glen Allen, Virginia native emerged on the national rugby scene after attending multiple camps at the Olympic Training Center and seeing action at National All-Star Competitions, prior to the Super Series.

The Olympic Opening Ceremonies begin on Friday, Aug. 5, with the U.S. women's rugby's first game scheduled for noon ET the following day. The USA women's rugby team will play all of their matches at Deodoro Stadium in Rio from Aug. 6-8.
