Collins, Weigel Earn NIRA Rugby All-America Honors

Collins and Weigel were selected to the second class of NIRA Rugby All-Americans (Elan Kawesch).

– Harvard women's rugby senior Claire Collins and sophomore Caitlin Weigel have been named All-Americans by the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association for their performances over the course of the 15s season in 2016.

There were 31 players selected from 14 colleges that make up the second class of NIRA Rugby All-Americans. Collins earned the honors for the second-straight season, and Weigel was selected for the first time after helping lead the Crimson to a 6-2 record, including a runner-up finish in the Ivy Rugby Championship game.

Collins was the only student-athlete on the Crimson roster who started as a member of the women's varsity program when it was first introduced in 2013-14. The senior standout totaled a team-high 12 tries, scoring in seven of the eight contests for Harvard this season. Collins notched a career-high four tries in win over the University of New England, finishing the year with three multi-score contests.

Weigel was a consistent source of offense for the Crimson as well, amassing seven tries on the season. Weigel scored in six-straight games, including in every regular season contest. The sophomore collected a season-high two tries in a victory over Cornell.

The Crimson will kick off its 7s season when it hosts the Crimson 7s at Mignone Field on March 25.
