ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Harvard women's rugby team defeated Navy, 32-7, in its 2016 season opener on Saturday. Senior Claire Collins paced the offense with two tries as the Crimson led the contest wire-to-wire.

Harvard took an early lead on Collins' first try and never looked back. The Crimson built a 15-0 advantage after junior Haley Langan and sophomore Min Kim each recorded a try as well.

Navy narrowed the deficit on a try and successful conversion to make it 15-7 right before the intermission.

Harvard regained control of the contest from the start of the second half, outscoring the hosts 17-0 during the final frame.

Collins recorded her second score to start the half before sophomore Caitlin Weigel gave the Crimson a 20-point lead (27-7) after a long run and kick for the conversion.

Freshman Robyn Beese finished off the scoring late in the game, notching her first try in a Crimson uniform and sealing the 32-7 win for Harvard.

Harvard rugby returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 when it travels to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England at noon.
