Harvard vs. University of New England
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's rugby team looks to build on a solid performance in its season debut as the Crimson travel to take on the University of New England Saturday.
The Crimson opened the 2016 campaign with a victory over Navy. Harvard led the contest wire-to-wire, building a 15-0 advantage in the first half and never looking back. The Crimson continued to add to its lead with a strong second half before taking home the 32-7 decision.
On the Attack
Harvard's offensive attack was led by senior Claire Collins with two tries. Collins scored the first try of the season for the Crimson and also added another to start the second half. Junior Haley Langan, sophomores Min Kim and Caitlin Weigel, along with freshman Robyn Beese all tallied a try as well.
The Crimson defense was superb throughout the contest, especially in the second half. Harvard outscored its opponents 17-0 during the second frame, completely shutting down the Navy offense.
Scouting University of New England
UNE boasts a varsity women's rugby team for the first time ever in 2016. The Nor'easters are currently 1-0 after winning their inaugural match against Molloy College, 68-10. UNE was led by junior Lara Murnik with four tries, while junior Kassidy Towns added two tries and a pair of conversions.
The match against the University of New England marks the final non-conference game before Ivy League play begins. Harvard welcomes Brown to Mignone Field on Sept. 23 for the start of conference action.
