PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Harvard rugby team took third place at the 2018 Brown Sevens Tournament on Sunday, defeating American International, Sacred Heart, West Chester, and Norwich. Sophomore Delia Hellander led the Crimson (8-2) to a 4-1 showing on the day with 42 points behind six tries and six conversions. For the second straight tournament, Dominique Cantave scored at least three tries, touching down thrice on Berylson Family Fields.
The Crimson were paired with American International and Sacred Heart in Pool Three. As two of the premier programs in the country, the Crimson and the Yellow Jackets opened with very physical and highly competitive play. Eventually Harvard created the space it needed to get points from Cantave, Sarah Lipson, and Hellander. The Crimson won its first match, 24-14. In the next game versus the Pioneers, Hellander, Cantave, and Jenny Kronish each touched-down. Hellander converted twice to help give the Crimson a 19-7 victory.
Harvard met West Chester in the quarterfinal. Milan Roberts, Hellander, and Cantave each scored to push the Crimson past the Rams, 17-14. The Crimson collided with Dartmouth in the semifinal, falling 32-0, before meeting Norwich in the third-place bout. There, Hellander tapped the turf twice more and converted once, while Sabrina Kim scored twice and Kronish put Harvard's final points on the board in a 27-17 win over the Cadets.
Harvard will compete for the Ivy League title on Saturday, April 14. Princeton will host the tournament on West Windsor Fields with match times to be announced at a later date.
