CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Harvard women's rugby and soccer player Cheta Emba '15 has been selected to represent the United States women's rugby team at the 2018 Women's Rugby Sevens World Cup, as announced on Thursday. Emba is one of 12 athletes selected to the roster, with competition running July 20-22 in San Francisco.
Emba is no stranger to the national team, as she also competed at the 2017 World Cup in Ireland a year ago. Previously she was selected as a travel reserve for the 2016 Olympic team in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The Eagles will open the action in San Francisco against China at 3:34 ET on NBC Sports Gold.
During her time at Harvard, Emba was part of the first Harvard women's rugby team in 2013-14. Her senior year in 2014-15 saw Emba being selected to play alongside the Eagles in the women's Super-Series in Canada.
She also starred as a goalkeeper on the women's soccer team for four years, helping the team clinch a pair of Ivy League titles in 2013 and 2014. Emba was named to the All-Ivy second team in 2013, and she posted a 0.75 goals-against average and .814 save percentage for her career.
