Purce Named Ivy League Player of the Week

The junior from Olney, Md., recorded her first-career hat trick at Yale (Gil Talbot).

PRINCETON, N.J. – Margaret Purce of the Harvard women's soccer team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday.

Purce recorded Harvard's first hat trick since 2007 when she beat the Yale goalkeeper in the second, sixth and 51st minutes. On both of her first-half strikes, Purce received a long pass from Bailey Gary, and beat a defender to the ball to finish in the upper corner. In the second half, she beat the goalkeeper outside of the 18-yard box and smoothly placed the ball down the middle into the open net.

With the trio of goals, the forward moved into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time Harvard goals list with 26. Her performance helped the Crimson move to 2-0-0 in Ivy League play.

Harvard women's soccer takes the field on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Boston University. The 7 p.m. kickoff can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.
