Hirst is the first Ivy Player of the Week from Harvard since 2016, when the Crimson won six (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Capping a highly-productive weekend to open her career, freshman Sophie Hirst of the women's soccer team has been named both the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Hirst scored in both games over the weekend, and is tied for the team lead with two goals this season. First, she opened the scoring in a 4-0 win over Syracuse, slotting a penalty kick and eventual game-winner into the right side netting, and then followed it up with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Quinnipiac, finding the top corner with a shot from 12 yards. She helped Harvard to shutout efforts in both appearances.
Harvard moved to 2-2 on the season, and hosts Maine on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. on NESN and ESPN+.
