CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Erica Oosterhout and sophomore Natasha Gonzalez competed at the 2017 Rivieira/ITA All-American Championships in Palisades, Calif. Gonzalez competed with her doubles partner in the doubles qualifier while Oosterhout also competed in pre-qualifying singles.
The Crimson pair was eliminated by Florida Atlantic in qualifying doubles, Tuesday afternoon. Oosterhout and Gonzalez took Florida Atlantic's Aliona Bolsova and Natalia Boltinskaya to 13 sets before falling, 8-5.
Oosterhout and Gonzalez advanced into the second round against Iowa in the consolation bracket of the qualifying doubles tournament. The tandem gave Iowa a fight, taking the match down to the wire before falling in a tie-breaker, 8-7.
In pre-qualifying singles, Oosterhout advanced to the final match, Sunday afternoon. In her first singles match, she overcame a 0-1 hole to defeated Ole Miss' Anna Vrenska, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 before moving on to knock off Despoina Vogasari from Kansas in two sets, 7-5, 6-2.
One win away from the moving on to the singles qualifier stood North Carolina's Alexandra Sanford. However, Oosterhout fell to the Tar Heel, 6-1, 6-3.
- Oosterhout advanced to the final match of prequalifying singles after wins against Ole Miss (5-7, 6-2, 6-4) and Kansas (7-5, 6-2).
- Oosterhout and Gonzalez fell to Florida Atlantic in qualifying doubles after 13 sets, 8-5.
Harvard is back in action on Oct. 6 at the three-day, Yale Bulldog Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
