CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Climbing back to .500 on the season, the Harvard women's tennis team (2-2) defeated St. John's (0-1), 6-1, to open its home spring schedule on Friday evening.
After dropping the doubles point, Harvard bounced back sweeping singles. Junior Erica Oosterhout set the tone from the top of the line-up earning her 10th win of the season. Oosterhout was leading St. John's nationally ranked Jessica Livianu, 5-2, in the first set when Livianu was forced to retire.
Beginning the spring season with a 3-1 singles mark, senior Annika Ringblom picked up her fourth win in 2018 knocking off Zofia Stanisz in third singles, 6-0, 6-2. In second singles, sophomore Jenna Friedel improved to 8-5, battling Olaya Inclan Solis to the 6-4, 6-0 win.
Freshman Neha Gupta grabbed her, team-leading, 14th singles win of the season with a two-set, 6-4, 6-1 win over Kajsa Stegrell in fourth singles, while sophomore Natasha Gonzalez took fifth singles. Fellow freshman Jenna Moustafa rounded out the singles sweep, grinding out a two-set win over Irina Preotescu, 7-6, 6-2.
Oosterhout and Gonzalez earned the Crimson's lone double victory, edging out Livianu and Stegrell in second doubles, 6-4.

- Freshman Neha Gupta improved to 14-1 with a two-set victory in fifth singles.
Harvard returns to the courts on Saturday Feb. 3 hosting Boston University and Rhode Island beginning at 10 a.m. Both matches will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
