CAMBRIDGE, Mass – The Harvard women's tennis team edged Massachusetts, 4-3, Sunday morning at the Murr Center Courts.

"I'm impressed with the way we stayed together as a team with our backs against the wall today," said The Sheila Kelly Palandjian Head Coach for Harvard Women's Tennis, Traci Green. "I'm very proud of the grit on each court from top to bottom. We will look to keep building on individual games this week as we prepare for our next challenge."

Beginning with doubles, the Crimson earned the doubles point yet again. Junior Jenna Friedel and first-year Rachel Lim teamed up to take down Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and Janja Kavacevic, 6-1, at No. 1. Junior Natasha Gonzalez and first-year Chelsea Williams, meanwhile, defeated Ashley Avery and Martina Bocchi, 6-3, at third doubles.

Harvard relied on its depth, winning the bottom three singles matches to clinch the match against Massachusetts. Gonzalez continued her early season success, besting Martina Bocchi, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-2, as the team's No. 4. Classmate Irene Lu battled to a 7-6 (7), 7-6(3) victory against Anna Napadiy at No. 5. Williams earned her second victory of the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Ashley Avery, rounding out the team's top-six.
