Women’s Tennis Kicks Off Ivy League Play With a Sweep Over Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team (13-5, 1-0 Ivy) kicked off Ivy League play with a strong showing against Dartmouth (3-12, 0-1 Ivy), sweeping the Big Green, 4-0, Saturday, at the Beren Tennis Center. 

Harvard began with a solid doubles performance, led by the pairing of senior Erica Oosterhout and junior Natasha Gonzalez as they defeated Abigail Chiu and Nicole Conrad, 6-3. Junior Jenna Friedel and first-year Rachel Lim followed suit, taking down Jingyi Peng and Racquel Lyn, 6-3. With wins at Nos. 1 and 2 locked up, the third doubles match was halted.

The Crimson continued its strong play, quickly clinching matches in singles play. Oosterhout earned her second victory on the day, getting past Lyn, 6-0, 6-1. Gonzalez also earned her second win, defeating Peng, 7-5, 6-2. Junior Irene Lu also dominated her matchup as the team's No. 6, coming out on top over Allison McCann, 6-1, 6-0. With the necessary four points in hand, the other three singles matches were left unfinished at Nos. 2, 3 and 5.

Harvard Highlights:

  • Harvard improves its win streak to five matches and has won seven of its last eight. 
  • The Crimson also add to its series lead over Dartmouth, 34-12. 
  • Gonzalez continued her winning ways, adding to her team-leading 12 wins in singles play.
  • The pairing of Oosterhout and Gonzalez has begun to hit their stride, winning their last three matches together.
  • With Lim's match unfinished, she remains unbeaten in her last six matches.

Up Next:
Harvard continues its six-match homestand next weekend, hosting Penn on Saturday, April 6, and Princeton on Sunday, April 7. Matches will be played the Beren Tennis Center or the Murr Center Courts. Both matches are set for 1 p.m.
