PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Harvard women's tennis team (16-6, 4-1 Ivy) came-from-behind to defeat Brown (10-11, 2-3 Ivy), 4-3, Sunday in Providence, Rhode Island.
Despite getting down early, the team showed strong fight in singles play. Oosterhout led the way as the team's top singles player, defeating Devon Jack, 7-6, 6-2. Junior Jenna Friedel continued her hot play with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory against Taylor Cosme.
Gonzalez added another win, taking down Courtney Kowalsky, 6-3, 6-2. Though, it was junior Irene Lu who secured the clinching point. Lu began with a first-set 6-3 victory, but got dropped the second-set, 1-6. The junior battled through the third set, coming out on top, 7-6, clinching the crucial match for Harvard.
- The Crimson continues its strong tennis, moving to 4-1 in Ivy League play, which is second in the league.
- Friedel extends her already impressive winning streak, capturing her 11th straight singles decision to improve to 14-1 in the spring.
- Lu has begun to play her best tennis of the season, earning her sixth-consecutive victory.
- Harvard has won eight of its last nine matches, dating back to the March 19 win against Southern.
The Crimson prepare for the final weekend of the regular season, hitting the road to take on Cornell and Columbia, beginning on April 20 at noon against the Big Red.
